While mail-order movie rentals haven’t taken off in Canada nearly as well as they have in the United States, Zip.ca has been giving the brick-and-mortar rental industry a run for it’s money for some time now. Now, in a fantastic turn of events, Zip has announced that streaming video is on the way.
Netflix, the US leader in mail-order movies, has offered streaming content for quite sometime now. Customers have been able to stream rentals right to the PC or Xbox 360 for more than a year, and it’s done wonders for their business. It was only a matter of time until Zip found a way to a make it happen.
And while the streaming will be available on computers and “consumer electronics,” they’ve yet to confirm what devices it will be available on. Zip.ca CEO Curt Millar has confided to Joystiq that he’d love to see streaming make its way to consoles like the Xbox 360 or PS3 in Canada; “Our whole strategy on this is to be available on every platform that we can be available on.”
No word on when streaming will start, but seeing as it’s officially been confirmed I can’t expect it to be too long a wait. Not a member of Zip.ca yet? Click here to check out their selection and get on board.
